The second phase of construction of the Zadar County Shellfish Farming Centre in Selina, near Zadar, has been completed, providing the locality with new infrastructure for the cultivation and processing of shellfish.
As part of the second phase, a protective breakwater with a complex geometry and parapet wall was built, along with an operational quay featuring a 20-metre-long stone wall and a boat slip measuring 5 by 15 metres for vessel maintenance. A platform for cleaning shellfish with an area of approximately 124 square metres was also constructed, and the harbour was dredged to a depth of two metres.
The value of the second phase works is 915,872.92 euros including VAT. The majority was funded by the Zadar Port Authority, the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure provided 800,000 euros, and the remaining portion was co-financed by Zadar County. The contractor was Kali gradnja, while the project and supervision were signed off by the Split-based company Coastal Engineering.
The centre is intended for the development of aquaculture and mariculture, as well as improving conditions for the cultivation, reception, and processing of shellfish within the county. The third phase is next, which will include capacities for the reception, processing, cleaning, and dispatch of shellfish.
