XPENG Inc. has unveiled its new G9L model, marking its global market entry. Alongside the launch, XPENG has opened the order book for European customers.
The letter “L” in the G9L name stands for Luxury. It is the flagship model of the new generation of artificial intelligence vehicles, defining the “New Intelligent Class”. It combines intelligent innovations, personalised comfort and versatile design, and is designed around three needs: business travel, family life and outdoor adventures.
The G9L has a length of 5120 mm, a width of 1999 mm and a height of 1788 mm, with a wheelbase of 3100 mm. The interior is organised into three rows of seats, and versions with six and seven seats will be available. Model specifications will vary depending on the market.
The exterior design includes DLP pixel front lights that can project dynamic graphics and driving information onto the road ahead, intelligent electric doors, electrically adjustable sills and welcome-effect carpets. Customers can choose from four exterior colours, two interior colours and two aluminium wheel designs.
The G9L marks the global debut of XPENG’s AI-driven active adaptive seat technology. These seats adapt to the passenger’s body shape using advanced sensors and are built into both front seats. The front seats include an adjustable driver’s seat and a zero-gravity version for the front passenger. Nappa leather seats in the first and second rows offer heating, ventilation and massage functions, while electrically adjustable backrests and footrests help passengers find a comfortable position on longer journeys. In the six-seat version, individual second-row seats with armrests provide extra space for relaxation.
The quiet cabin is supported by road noise cancellation, full-cabin acoustic insulation, Michelin acoustic tyres and high-efficiency acoustic glass. Tri-fold electric protective curtains extend across 270 degrees of the cabin. In the six-seat version, when all seats are in use, the rear luggage space offers 367 litres of volume, and there is an additional 65-litre front trunk. Total luggage space can accommodate seven 20-inch cabin suitcases.
The cabin includes a smart fridge with two cooling zones of 12.5 litres, a 21.4-inch (54.36 cm) rear entertainment screen in 3K resolution and a high-fidelity sound system with 23 speakers. A dedicated child-oriented cabin space is made from materials selected with younger passengers in mind. There are also a 17.3-inch (43.9 cm) central screen, an 8.8-inch (22.4 cm) instrument cluster and an augmented reality head-up display. The “Hey XPENG” voice assistant supports speech recognition in six zones in both six- and seven-seat versions, and over-the-air (OTA) software updates enable further development of the vehicle’s software over time.
XPENG is the first car manufacturer in the Asia-Pacific region to integrate Google Maps into its vehicles for foreign markets. Following the L03 model, the G9L is the second XPENG model to offer native navigation based on Google Maps, available directly via the in-vehicle system without downloading the Google Maps app and without connecting a smartphone.
The G9L combines a fully aluminium suspension architecture with a double wishbone front suspension, a multi-link rear suspension with H-arms, dual-chamber air suspension, DCC adaptive damping and active rear-wheel steering. The rear-wheel steering system enables a turning radius of 5.5 metres. The adjustable air suspension allows the vehicle height to change by 70 mm, from 30 mm below the standard setting to 40 mm above it, with a maximum ground clearance of 216 mm. The G9L is designed to handle water obstacles up to a depth of 700 mm.
Dual-motor, all-wheel-drive versions deliver 430 kW of power and 695 Nm of torque. The G9L accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds and achieves a braking distance of 35.1 metres when braking from 100 km/h to a full stop. The dual-motor all-wheel-drive system ensures good grip on demanding surfaces.
The “RWD Long Range Ultra” version offers the best range and energy efficiency in the G9L model lineup. It enables a range of up to 591 km under the WLTP cycle, with energy consumption of 21.1 kWh/100 km. The 800-volt platform uses silicon-carbide technology and supports ultra-fast charging (5C), allowing the battery to be charged from 10 per cent to 80 per cent capacity in 11.7 minutes.
The G9L has an electrically deployable tow hitch with a towing capacity of up to two tonnes and an external V2L (vehicle-to-load) power output of 6 kW.
