The town of Labin has received an additional €199,134 in grant funding for the remediation and closure of the Cere landfill. The decision was made by the Fund for Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency, representing one of the most significant environmental interventions in the Labin region.
The project previously secured €1,692,638 in grant funding from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan. With the new decision by the Fund, the total support rises to nearly €1.9 million. The additional funding was approved following a public tender and the signing of a contract with the contractor, aligning the financing with the agreed value of the works.
Cere is a landfill for non-hazardous waste. The remediation involves repositioning the waste into a stable body within the landfill and installing a final cover. A gas extraction system with a flare is also being constructed, along with drainage improvements. The project concludes with the greening of an area of approximately two hectares.
The works are currently underway. Gabion retaining walls are being installed on site, stabilising the terrain and preparing the landfill for the continuation of the remediation works.
The project is being carried out jointly by the Town of Labin and the municipal utility company 1. maj, with the works being carried out by the company Opera Group. The completion is planned for the end of the year. The town authorities state that Cere will become a safe green space after closure, with reduced risks to the environment and improved living conditions in the Labin region.
