Officers of the Mak Police Station have intensified traffic controls during July in an effort to reduce the number of serious traffic offences. The operations are focused on removing drivers whose behaviour poses a threat to the safety of road users.
In the context of enhanced oversight, 3,448 traffic offences were recorded in the station's area of operation over the past three months. The police note an increasing trend in the number of repeat offenders, namely drivers who repeatedly violate the Road Safety Act.
In response to such behaviour, an increasing number of offenders are being held in custody. This step serves as a message that the most serious offenders will be dealt with strictly, with the aim of deterring further breaches of the law.
One of the incidents that drew attention occurred during July. A female driver refused to undergo drug testing during a routine check.
Following instructions to leave her personal belongings in the vehicle, a situation escalated. The woman disrupted public order, and at one point, she threw a bottle of alcoholic beverage to the floor, an act of violence that persisted until she was subdued by the use of force by the officers. Following the calming of the situation, the 28-year-old was arrested and taken to the detention facility.
This incident illustrates the strict approach of the police towards drivers who do not cooperate with the relevant authorities or who attempt to avoid the establishment of facts regarding their condition. The police continue with intensified controls on the roads of Mak.
