Zagreb police organised an operation last weekend to monitor the "Car meet scene", spending two evenings on Ljubljana Avenue in addition to operations in Samobor. There, they monitored vehicles and drivers who had gathered in the car parks of shopping centre zones.
On the night from Friday to Saturday, the "Car meet scene" involved around 20 participants. The inspection of a total of 48 passenger cars revealed a total of five offences, all committed outside the car park area. One offence was for driving under the influence of alcohol, one for not holding a driving licence, one for changing lanes at an intersection, one for failing to yield to pedestrians, and one for not carrying a personal identity card.
On the night from Saturday to Sunday, police again monitored the aforementioned locations, but there were no gatherings of "Car meet scene" participants. Police officers, while monitoring traffic outside the car park area, recorded a total of three offences – one for using a mobile phone, one for driving with the vehicle's lights off, and one for not holding a vehicle registration document.
Zagreb police have announced that they will continue to monitor gathering places as well as all locations suitable for such meetings of vehicle and driver enthusiasts. The Zagreb County Police Department (PUZ) stated that the aim of the activities is to act preventively and repressively to ensure compliance with traffic regulations and to raise traffic culture for the safety of all participants, while respecting public order and peace, given that the noise at such gatherings often disrupts the quality of life of citizens.
The presence and activity of police officers contributed to preventing potential unlawful behaviour as well as conduct that would disturb citizens or undermine their peace and quality of life.
