A post recently appeared on the digital platform Reddit from a user who photographed a shot-up car in Lastovska street on Zagreb’s Savica. In the meantime, someone kindly covered the damaged vehicle with foil to protect it from the rain.

Residents of Lastovska street told Jutarnji list that six or seven rear windshields on cars have been shot out at one and the same parking spot near a business building at number 23 over the past year. In the comments below the Reddit post, they claim that someone has been shooting cars with an air rifle for a year and that it is always the same parking space involved.

Police officers from the Zagreb County Police Administration, Zagreb VIII Police Station (Trnje), acted on 11 October 2026 following a report of a damaged private car at an address in Zagreb, Marina Držića. It was determined that damage in the form of a broken rear windshield had occurred on a Mercedes car. The vehicle has Split registration plates.

Police claim this is the only such case they have received so far, meaning they had no record of previous cases because they were not reported. Police officers are conducting inspections to determine the perpetrator, as well as all the circumstances of the damage.

One councillor from the Trnjanska Savica Local Council told Jutarnji list that these events were current a year ago and that they have not received inquiries related to broken car windshields since February this year. She explained that inquiries were coming via email, but citizens were also attending meetings to speak about these problems, and they were always referred to the police. She added that a theory had been circulating in the neighbourhood that someone was breaking the glass with a hammer, meaning it was not always a bullet fired from an air rifle.
