The University of Zadar is welcoming a new generation of students on Thursday. The new academic year begins with meetings for freshmen, who will officially gather with their peers and teachers on 1 October.

Meetings are held with the rector of the university, followed by those with the heads of the respective departments. Students in single-subject courses, as well as first-year students in the integrated undergraduate and teaching master’s programmes in Zadar, will meet the rector at 9 am in the ceremonial hall of the University of Zadar. At 10 am, the rector meets with first-year students of two-subject courses, after which the freshmen proceed to their home departments.

The meeting of the heads of departments with first-year students of single-subject and integrated courses will take place at 11 am, while students in two-subject courses will meet with the heads according to a specific schedule.

Classes for students in undergraduate and integrated courses, as well as second-year students in master’s courses, begin on Friday, 2 October. Students enrolling in the first year of a master’s course will start their studies on Monday, 5 October.

Student ID cards can be collected from 1 to 6 October. Students in single-subject courses will collect their cards at the secretariat of their home department, while students in two-subject courses will collect them at the Student Registry, on weekdays from 9 am to 12 pm and from 1 pm to 2:30 pm. To collect the ID, a valid personal identity card is required, and students in two-subject courses who have enrolled in a programme change already have their ID.

The university will continue with open courses in the 2026/27 academic year. These are short, lifelong learning courses open to all interested citizens, with particular encouragement for the inclusion of people in their third age. Participants in the open courses do not receive student status, but their obligations at the course are the same as those of regular students.

The condition for enrollment in the open courses is the completion of four years of secondary school, and it is possible to choose multiple courses if the scheduled classes do not overlap. The price for one course is 100 euros with VAT, while for retirees it is 26.55 euros. Those who successfully complete all required tasks will receive a certificate of the passed course, and for at least 80 percent attendance, a certificate of attendance is issued.

Interested citizens can enroll in the open courses in person at the Department of Quality and Lifelong Learning, at the Rectorate on Mihovil Pavlinović Street 1, on the fourth floor, on weekdays from 10 am to 12 pm, or by completing an electronic application form. The deadline for application is 9 October 2026, and upon enrollment, one must present a proof of completed four-year secondary school.
