The former Croatian international was arrested in a joint anti-corruption operation by the State Investigative and Prosecutorial Office (USKPO) and police, and was taken into custody for questioning at the USKPO’s Zagreb offices, N1 reported.
Alongside Šimić, Neda Livšić, a former official at the Šibenik-Knin County, and local entrepreneur Marin Mišić were arrested, with investigators suspecting the latter acted as an intermediary.
The investigators allege that Šimić, through Livšić, obtained planning permissions for a campsite on the island of Murčur. According to unofficial information relayed by N1, Livšić issued a decision for a household catering service, classified as a household camp, despite the plots where the camp was located not meeting the required spatial planning conditions. The plots in question were reportedly outside the designated building zone, with the relevant decisions issued during 2020 and 2021.
Mišić is the long-standing president of NK Vodice, and previously served as the deputy mayor of Vodica and president of the local municipal council, according to the Morski.hr portal.
The questioning of the suspects is currently taking place at the USKPO’s Zagreb offices, with details of the operation not yet officially released.
