Zagreb’s Upper Town will host the ČVENK festival until 26 July, with the event taking place across eight locations. The programme spans 17 days, running daily from 18:00 to midnight, with entry to most events free of charge, as reported by Index.hr.
The festival takes its name from an archaic term for ‘meet-up’ and, under the motto ‘Meet: City, Summer, People and Art’, seeks to enliven the hidden gardens and old passages of the historic district.
One of the central venues is the atrium of the Tituš Brezovački Gymnasium in Habdinićeva Street, where the Museum of Contemporary Art is presenting an exhibition, workshops and film screenings, including ‘Warhol: The American Dream’, ‘Loving Vincent’ and ‘The Man Who Stole Banksy’. Acoustic sets are expected at the garden of the Croatian Institute of History in Opatička 10, while the plaza in front of the Jelačić Palace in Demetrova 7 is being transformed into a stage for music, dance and street food.
At the Marija Jambriček Student Hostel, evening socials, board games, an open chess club and pub quizzes are being organised, while ‘wine and paint’ workshops and ceramic painting are taking place at the Pop Tower and the Zagreb City Museum’s archaeological garden. The Vraz Promenade and Grič Park are also included in the programme, featuring poetry, concerts and DJ sets.
At the Galerija Klovićevići, the public is treated to a theatrical and musical programme over five evenings, including a stand-up performance, the monodrama ‘I, Actress!’ by Daria Lorenz Flatz, the comedy ‘Breakup on the Line’ and a performance of Krleža’s ‘The Ballads of Petar Kerepčan’ by Jan Kovačić.
Performers at the festival include Jan Lesić and David Paul, Duška Brčić Šušak, Kim Verson and The Vura. Tickets for paid events are available via the Entrio system.
