The world champion Lando Norris apologised to Franco Colpa for a comment that he should be banned, after Colpa caused a crash at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in which all three drivers were eliminated from the race.

Colpa blocked the wheels at the re-start after a safety car period, after which he slid into his Alpine team-mate Pierre Gasly. Gasly then hit Norris, with all three withdrawing from the race. Colpa said after the event that he was sorry for his 'big mistake'.

Norris, speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, said: 'Give him a ban. It's quite simple.' In a message on Instagram on Saturday, however, he said he was sorry for the comment. He added that he had sent a message of apology to Franco for the comment he had made.

Norris explained that emotions were high, but that was not an excuse and it was wrong of him. He highlighted that he had made mistakes in the past. He said that he and Franco understood each other well, that they were still good friends and that both were looking forward to racing this weekend.
