The Ivorian Football Federation has officially announced the appointment of Hervé Renard as the new head coach. The Frenchman takes charge of the African side, bringing an end to the search for a replacement. This move marks the return of the experienced coach to a country with which he has a rich history and significant achievements.
Renard succeeds Emerse Faé in the head coach role. The Ivorian Football Federation did not renew the contract with Faé, bringing his tenure to an end. Faen is remembered as the first coach to lead Ivory Coast to the quarter-finals of the World Cup, one of the greatest achievements in the history of the federation.
Renard, 57, has managed numerous national teams throughout his career. His managerial resume includes stints with Tunisia, Ivory Coast, Zambia, Angola, Morocco, and Saudi Arabia. His record also includes managing the French women’s national team, highlighting his broad expertise and experience across different football cultures.
This is not the first time Renard has managed Ivory Coast. He previously served as head coach of the country in 2014 and 2015. During that period, he guided a generation centred around star player Yaya Touré, with whom he won the Africa Cup of Nations. That success makes him one of the most successful coaches in the history of African football.
Renard most recently managed the Tunisian national team during this year’s World Cup. His new appointment in Ivory Coast brings expectations that he will leverage his previous experience with the team to guide the national side to further international success.
