After nearly four years, Mario Vuskovic is nearing his return to competitive football. The former Hajduk centre-back has been training with HSV's first team since 15 September, and can make his official debut from 15 November, when his suspension expires.

German newspaper Bild reports that he is already creating serious competition for the other centre-backs in the club. In an article titled "Vuskovic already creating pressure at HSV", it is noted that Vuskovic is making a good impression since returning to team training. Although he mostly plays for the second team during internal matches, he demonstrates stability and physical readiness, thereby strengthening HSV's defensive options.

Head coach Merlin Polzin said: "Everyone wants to be on the pitch, you can feel it. It is a very good situation." Polzin is gradually increasing Vuskovic's workload to prepare him for the return to official matches. "He makes a very fresh impression. He copes well with everything we have prepared for him. That makes me very optimistic," added the HSV coach speaking about Vuskovic.

Bild had already reported on significant physical progress by Mario Vuskovic at the end of September. They highlighted that, according to GPS data from training, he is achieving a higher top speed than four years ago. A sprint faster than 34 kilometres per hour was recorded, and progress is also noted in explosive strength exercises.

During his suspension, Vuskovic trained individually with Josko Vlasic, striving to remain ready for his return to professional football. Polzin stated: "He can hardly wait to return. We will use the remaining time so that he can help us as soon as he is allowed to." The coach admitted that he cannot yet say with certainty how long it will take for Vuskovic to adapt to the demands of the Bundesliga.
