US President Donald Trump announced that the peace council had reached an agreement on the complete disarmament of Hamas and other armed groups in the Gaza area. The agreement represents a significant development in the current efforts to stabilise the region.
The agreement forms part of the second phase of the US-mediated ceasefire plan for Gaza. This phase encompasses three key pillars: the disarmament of Hamas, the withdrawal of Israeli troops, and the reconstruction of infrastructure in Gaza.
Trump stated that this agreement is a key step towards the final implementation of his 20-point plan. According to statements published on the social media platform Truth Social, Israel will withdraw its forces as the disarmament process proceeds.
Trump highlighted that the agreement paves the way for Gaza to be governed by a new Palestinian administration, aiming to ensure long-term political stability in the area. Security in the region is to be secured through cooperation between an international stabilisation force and the new Palestinian police force.
Their joint role will be to ensure that Gaza is safe for its residents as well as for neighbouring countries. Trump thanked mediators from Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey for their contribution to achieving this historic agreement.
