US forces have completed a new five-hour wave of strikes on targets across Iran, the third night in a row. At the same time, the United Arab Emirates reported that Iran had attacked two of its tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, with one crew member killed.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on the platform X that military targets in Bushehr, Shahab, Jask, Konarak, Abu Musa and Bandar Abbas had been hit in the five-hour operation. The new strikes were launched early on Tuesday European time.
US President Donald Trump reiterated that the deal with Tehran was still "possible", but warned that the Iranian leadership was doing absolutely nothing against the attack. The White House confirmed that Trump had officially informed Congress of the resumption of war with Iran.
On his platform Truth Social, Trump announced that the United States would take control of the Strait of Hormuz and re-establish a blockade of Iranian ports. The blockade, according to the military, comes into effect on Tuesday at 22:00 Central European Time, with Washington planning to charge 20 per cent of the value of the cargo for passage through the strait.
The Iranian foreign minister, Abbas Arakchi, responded on the platform X that Iran had 'always been the guardian of the strait and will remain so forever'. Trump, he added, was 'absolutely right' that the one guaranteeing the safe passage of commercial ships should be paid: '20 per cent is clearly too much. We will be fair.'
