The US military carried out two further waves of strikes on targets in Iran overnight, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced, as Iranian state media reported hits on locations in the central and northern parts of the country.
CENTCOM stated that US forces used precision-guided munitions to target Iranian command centres, air defence positions, missile systems and drones, as well as coastal surveillance facilities at multiple locations, including Bandar Abbas. The aim, it said, was to further degrade Iran’s ability to threaten commercial vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
Earlier in the night, US forces conducted a 90-minute strike on Greater Tunb island. According to Iranian state media, Semnan airport, approximately 160 kilometres east of Tehran, was among the targets. The deputy governor of Markazi province said two missiles hit a site near the town of Khondaba, and explosions were also heard in Khorramabad in Lorestan province.
US strikes over the past week have primarily targeted Iran’s southern coastal regions, with some targets in the interior. As reported by N1, President Donald Trump on Tuesday threatened to destroy all Iranian power plants and bridges if Iranian representatives do not sit at the negotiating table, and when asked if the strikes would continue, he replied that they would until he says they are enough.
The ceasefire between the two countries, which had been in place since April and had been breached several times, was declared over by Trump last week.
