Serbia's President Aleksandar Vučić has announced that he will make a decision on the dissolution of the Assembly tomorrow at noon. The decision was previously approved by the government, which submitted a proposal to dissolve parliament, thereby paving the way for new electoral processes in the country. According to legal provisions, the period between the announcement and the actual election must last between 45 and 60 days, which sets the framework for the upcoming campaign.
In the course of preparations, the main board of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) decided that Aleksandar Vučić would lead the list in the upcoming parliamentary elections. If this list secures a majority, the current president will assume the office of prime minister, confirming the continuity of his political dominance despite changes in the structure of the executive. This structural change is part of a broader preparatory process for the electoral units to be held on 25 October.
Meanwhile, Vučić has expressed views on recent regional reactions, particularly those following the funeral of Ratko Mladić. He stated that reactions from neighbouring capitals, such as Sarajevo, Priština and Podgorica, were marked by hysteria. He emphasised that Serbia does not wish to enter a pattern of emotional statements, highlighting the need for calmness in mutual relations despite political tensions.
In this regard, Vučić announced that Serbia would take reciprocal measures in response to decisions by neighbouring countries following these tensions. Although specific measures have not yet been fully detailed, it is clear that foreign policy steps will align with this stance. Meanwhile, estimates regarding turnout at recent events, such as the funeral, indicate a significant turnout of 120,000 to 150,000 people, underscoring deep societal divisions and intense emotional reactions in the region.
