The Opatija Red Cross organised a voluntary blood donation drive in the Lovran area. This marks the third such event held in this part of Istria this year, continuing the continuity of humanitarian work by the local community.
This year’s drive was marked by the inaugural use of the new premises of the Lovran Red Cross unit. The location is at the Lovran community centre in Lokva, representing a significant change from previous venues and providing better conditions for donors and organisers.
44 donors participated in the drive, of whom 41 successfully donated blood. Among the successful donors were 27 men and 14 women. A total of 41 units of blood were collected, contributing to the supplies needed by healthcare facilities.
Analysis of the collected blood revealed that group A+ was the most in demand, with 12 units collected. This was followed by group O+ with 11 units, while 7 units of group O- were collected. The remaining units belonged to other blood groups.
This drive confirms the importance of regular humanitarian events in smaller communities such as Lovran. Through cooperation with the Opatija Red Cross, local volunteers enable residents to contribute to saving lives in a simple and accessible way.
