The contract for the construction of the Vid–Nova S connecting road was signed in Metković on Sunday. The project, valued at almost €14 million, is one of the most important transport projects for the Nerva valley. The funding is provided by the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure.
The new road will be 7.6 kilometres long. It will link the settlement of Vid, within the city of Metković, with the D62 state road at Nova Sela, in the municipality of Kula Norinska. In Vid, the road will connect to the county road Ž6218 via a three-way junction. A roundabout is planned at the junction with the state road in Nova Sela, with the associated access roads to be upgraded.
The project is being managed by the Dubrovnik-Neretva County Road Administration. The contract with the contractor, Patrlji, was signed by the director of the administration, Ivo Kaštelan, according to Slobodna Dalmacija. The signing was attended by County Prefect Boško Pezo and the mayor of Metković, Dalibor Milan.
Prefect Pezo stated that the project would provide "a new impetus to transport, opening up new opportunities for the region", as reported by Slobodna Dalmacija.
The city of Metković states that the new road will shorten travel time from Metković to the north-western part of the county. It will also improve connectivity to the future junction of the A1 motorway. The project is expected to deliver greater road safety and better connectivity for local settlements to the state road network.
