His Excellency Mr Arun Goel, Ambassador of India to the Republic of Croatia, visited the town of Jastrebarsko. During his stay, the Indian diplomatic representative toured the historic Golub family cooperage workshop. The visit was conducted in the company of Nikolina Ribarić, Deputy Mayor of the City of Jastrebarsko, who introduced the ambassador to the local cultural heritage.
The Golub family has curated and opened to the public a unique cooperage collection representing a significant part of the local heritage. The collection preserves 233 exhibits, including traditional hand tools and devices formerly used for making wooden tableware. Particular attention is drawn to tools produced by the Vienna-based factory J. Weiss & Sohn, founded in 1820.
The collected material encompasses not only tools but also old photographs documenting the traditional method of barrel-making. The collection also preserves diverse wooden tableware used in wine production, including baskets, casks, pails, measuring jugs, and barrels of various volumes and ages. One specimen in the collection dates from 1843, testifying to the long tradition of this craft in the region.
Due to its exceptional cultural and historical value, the cooperage collection was officially declared a cultural monument of the Republic of Croatia on 15 February 2014. This decision was made by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia, confirming the importance of preserving this heritage for national culture.
Following the tour of the cooperage workshop and an introduction to the rich collection, Ambassador Goel had the opportunity to explore the eno-gastronomic offerings of the Jasko area. This part of the visit took place at the Hotel Princess, where the diplomatic representative could enjoy local specialties. The visit concluded at the Korak family winery, where the ambassador had the chance to taste wines from this well-known producer.
