In response to the discharge at the Bumbište site, the local administrator of Medulin, Ivan Kirac, has filed reports with the State Inspectorate and the Port Authority, and lodged a criminal complaint, Glas Istre reports.
The local administrator is demanding an urgent inspection to determine how the discharge occurred and who is responsible.
The local administration states that the discharge has not yet been fully contained and that the remediation is not progressing at the expected pace. They add that, despite inquiries, they have not received further information from the relevant authorities on the next steps.
The local administration stresses that it is neither the investor nor the contracting authority for the construction of the new discharge and wastewater treatment plant at Bumbište. That role is held by Vodovod Pula-Labin, which manages the system and is responsible for the remediation.
Analysis of seawater at the Centinera beach showed good quality, but the beaches in the area remain closed, in line with the recommendation of the Institute of Public Health of Istria County, as the discharge has not fully ceased.
Sampling and analysis of the seawater will continue until the discharge stops and the situation stabilises, after which a decision will be made on the reopening of the beaches.
