In the Križevac neighbourhood of Karanško Brdo, a modernised road nearly three kilometres long was inaugurated on Saturday. The works, involving roadbed preparation and asphalt laying, cost approximately €230,000 including VAT.
The opening was attended by the mayor of Križevac, Tomislav Katanović, and his deputy, Ivica Švaglj. Also present were Davor Zemljak, head of the administrative department, Goran Hrg, president of the City Council, and council member Marko Vrbanec, along with other council members.
"We do not base our project planning and implementation solely on the number of inhabitants in a settlement," stated Katanović. He added that the city views Karanško Brdo as a location with tourism and economic potential, which is crucial for the development of the entire region.
The president of the local community, Prikraj, Križevci, Dubravko Matek, assessed the project as well-executed and thanked the city leadership for its implementation.
Local resident Predrag Bičak recalled the history of the area. Karanško Brdo is an old settlement known for its vineyards, and in the early 1980s, residents from Križevac began visiting, purchasing cellars and land, and eventually settling there, Bičak recounted.
The local community built the chapel of St Vincent 13 years ago, and it continues to bless the cellars and celebrate the feasts of St Vincent and St Martin. The new road was blessed by the parish priest, Kristian Bogdan.
