Prime Minister and HDZ leader Andrej Plenković and Homeland Movement (Domovinski pokret) president Ivan Penava are locked in a dispute in which neither side is willing to yield. According to information from two connected sources, both leaders are holding firm to their positions.
At the centre of the dispute is Tomislav Bilandžić, State Secretary in the Ministry of the Interior (Ministarstvo unutarnjih poslova), who holds the post from the Homeland Movement quota. Bilandžić publicly backed the police immediately after the dispute erupted, further drawing attention to the relationship between the two parties.
The support for the police expressed by the State Secretary from the DP quota comes at a time when neither Plenković nor Penava is showing a willingness to make concessions. It is not yet known whether this situation will affect future relations within the governing structure.
The lack of yielding on both sides suggests that the dispute will not be resolved in the short term. According to available information, neither the Prime Minister nor the Homeland Movement president is deviating from their stance.
The State Secretary in the Ministry of the Interior remains committed to his public support for the police, a position he adopted immediately after the dispute began. The further development of the situation will depend on whether one of the parties eventually agrees to a compromise.
