The City of Slavonski Brod has become the owner of nearly 100 hectares of land in the Vijuš area, along the Sava River. The change of ownership is now officially confirmed in the land registry, with the City formally registered as the rights holder in that area.

The land stretches from the skate park to Poloj, meaning it covers one of the most recognisable riverside sections in the city. This is space right alongside the Sava that has hitherto been the subject of various status issues, and ownership has now finally been resolved in favour of the City.

According to the current spatial plan, this is an area designated for sport and recreation. By acquiring ownership, the land becomes public property for general use, meaning it is intended for use by citizens. This opens up the possibility for the space to be accessible to the wider public in line with its primary purpose.

The City has announced the preparation of a plan for the development and further growth of the area. According to announcements, development will be guided by the sporting and recreational purpose of the space, which could see existing facilities improved and expanded.

The total area of nearly 100 hectares makes this one of the larger land issues resolved in favour of the City in recent times. The entry in the land registry provides the legal basis for further steps in planning and developing the space, and the City thereby gains the ability to make independent decisions about its future.
