At the social hall in Garčin, near Slavonski Brod, the 16th ‘We Restore Heritage’ (Obnavljamo baštinu) event, a showcase of restored traditional costumes, took place on Saturday, 10 October 2026. The event gathered enthusiasts of traditional culture, folklore, and local craftsmanship.
The event was organised by the KUD ‘Pr’ojerje’ (Pr) from Križevci and the Centre for Traditional Culture, with the support of the Ministry of Culture, Brod-Posavina County, the City of Zagreb, and the municipality of Garčin. The event was dedicated to the preservation of traditional heritage, with a particular focus on the restoration of folk costumes, traditional textile crafts, and the presentation of customs to future generations.
Among the participants was the KUD ‘Pr’ojerje’ (Pr) from Križevac, which presented the traditions, customs, and folk heritage of the local Pr region to the audience. The local ensemble performed in two scenic presentations.
In the first performance, they depicted how people used to dance with local hostesses, accompanied by local musicians. The second scenic presentation, titled ‘It is Good to Rise Early’, portrayed the custom of washing the wedding guests the morning after the wedding, when the bride would wash the assembled guests, who in turn would gift her money or other presents. Following the washing, the celebration continued with song and dance until breakfast.
The performance by the ‘Pr’ojerje’ (Pr) ensemble was prepared and presented by the society’s director, Ivan Vinković, and the director of the string section, Emil Šatrak. The venue was filled to capacity.
At the end of the event, the president of the ‘Pr’ojerje’ (Pr) society, Tihomir Pleša, received a certificate of appreciation for the society’s participation in the 16th ‘We Restore Heritage’ event.
