The exhibition by Montenegrin artist Dragan Pešurić in Ploče has been cancelled following allegations of links to the Morin camp. The artist has addressed Max Portal to present his side of the story, stating that the accusations are incorrect and malicious interpretations that misrepresent his role in the camp.
Pešurić states that his name is Dragan Pešurić, not Pešurić, as incorrectly stated in certain publications and lists of Morin camp guards. He states that during the war events, he was always against conflict, and that for this reason, he was publicly harassed in his own town.
According to him, he was sent to Morin, innocent and without fault, as a reserve soldier. He stresses that he did not direct a single harsh word, but brought food and drink to the innocently detained neighbours from Konavle and other places.
Pešurić states that no prisoner has ever stated that he participated in abuse. He adds that some have told him that after the aggression on the Republic of Croatia, he could freely knock on their doors.
In his address, he warns that it is enough for someone who dislikes him or does not accept his stance on the war to send a message, and for him to be publicly blackened without any verification. He states that he would not have come to Ploče or exhibited his paintings if he did not believe in the people in this region, that he respects and values them.
Pešurić says that this is the only way for him to address the public, and that on these lands, a person wishing to live normally and humanely can easily become a target. He pleads that he be allowed to publish a correction so that the malicious interpretations and falsehoods may cease.
