Mel Brooks has turned 100, and despite his age, he is returning to the screen for a new sequel to the film "Spaceballs". As actress Daphne Zuniga revealed, Brooks filmed his scenes before the rest of the production because he did not want to wait for the start of the main filming schedule.
Zuniga shared details about the film during a panel at the 90s Con event, dedicated to the series "Melrose Place". She stated that Brooks insisted on this filming schedule. Brooks also participated in the work on the script and had a significant influence on the entire project.
The new sequel is titled "Spaceballs: The New One". Rick Moranis returns as Lord Dark Helmet, and Bill Pullman reprises his role as Lone Starr. Lewis Pullman, Bill Pullman's son, will play the son of Lone Starr and Princess Vespa. Keke Palmer will also appear in the film, and the premiere is planned for 23 April next year.
Moranis described putting the costumes back on after nearly 39 years as an unusual experience. He said he felt as if he had fallen into a time vortex.
The original film "Spaceballs" was released in cinemas in 1987, when Brooks was 60 years old, and it parodied "Star Wars" and other famous science fiction classics.
