In the Samobor region, the celebration of Samobor Bermet Day is about to begin, an event that combines traditional heritage with a contemporary approach to promoting local heritage. The programme, whose authors of the conceptual solutions are Igor Paulić and Antun Filipec, encompasses a series of activities aimed at introducing bermet to new generations, with an emphasis on its connection to local hospitality and tourism.
The key part of the programme consists of three editions of the Bermet Run, which will take place on three consecutive Saturdays: 12, 19 and 26 September. Each race lasts approximately eight kilometres, and the routes are designed to pass through specific local landscapes, including forests, vineyards and city viewpoints. This schedule allows participants to discover different aspects of the Samobor region, from rural areas to urban complexes.
Special attention is drawn to the collaboration with local wineries, whose representatives, such as Zdravko Župančić, actively participate in shaping the programme. It is important to note that three wineries, including those whose representatives were mentioned, hold a protected geographical indication (PGI) at the European Union level, which further confirms the quality and authenticity of the products. In addition, participants at the finish points of each of the three races will receive local specialties, including Samobor bermet, Samobor češnovka and rudarska greblica, thereby highlighting the connection between food, drink and terrain.
The programme also includes expert workshops, such as a bermet masterclass led by sommelier and educator Darko Lugarić, aimed primarily at local hospitality professionals. In addition to the educational aspect, the programme includes tastings, prize draws and a formal announcement of the winners, with the aim of encouraging further tourism development and the promotion of local products. This approach not only preserves tradition but also modernises it, making it attractive to a wider audience.
