The Black Gold cycling club has been founded in Mursko Središće, aiming to bring together two-wheeled enthusiasts of all generations. Simon Vršić was elected as the club’s president, while Krešimir Kolac will serve as secretary.
The club will organise group rides and excursions, and encourage the youngest members to take up cycling. Plans include cycling training camps for children, where the youngest will have the opportunity to develop their cycling skills and learn about road safety. In addition, organised excursions are planned for adults, children and whole families.
One of the club’s most important projects will be the Black Gold Granfondo Međimurja, with the first edition planned for 19 September 2027. The organisation of the granfondo is envisaged in cooperation with the Mura and Gorička Region Tourist Board and the City of Mursko Središće, with the goal of making the event a traditional annual fixture. The holding of the granfondo was announced by Zoran Turk, director of the Mura and Gorička Region Tourist Board, at this year’s National Cycling Conference held on Pag.
The name Black Gold, or “crno zlato”, links cycling with the mining and oil heritage of Mursko Središće and its surroundings. Support for the new club’s work is provided by Dražen Srpak, mayor of Mursko Središće.
The club is open to all interested parties, regardless of age, fitness, experience or type of bicycle. Road, gravel and mountain cycling enthusiasts, e-bike users and the youngest cyclists are all welcome. Anyone interested can contact the club via the email address [email protected].
The St Barbara promenade brings together cyclists of different generations in fair weather, further confirming the interest in cycling activities in the area.
