Formula 1 driver Valtteri Bottas decided to travel from Malaysia to Singapore by bicycle instead of private jet. The Finnish driver, who drives for Cadillac and is 37 years old, set off immediately after the Malaysian Grand Prix in Sepang, where he did not finish the race due to retirement.

The total route is 350 kilometres, with Bott planning to cover it in a few days. The destination of the journey is media obligations in Singapore scheduled for Thursday. The first stage was from Kuala Lumpur to Port Dickson and was 56.6 kilometres long, which Bott covered in two hours and eight minutes.

Part of the journey had to be made at night, during which visibility was very poor. He navigated with the help of a small light attached to the bicycle handlebars. Bott is an avid cyclist who regularly competes in cycling races, often with his partner Tiffany Cromwell, a professional cyclist.

In 2023, he participated in a 100-kilometre race, where he dressed as the character Duffman from the series. He won the race, and as a prize, he secured beer for fans in Colorado. The following year, after news broke that he would not have a place in Formula 1 for the 2025 season, he turned to cycling. Sauber announced that it was ending its partnership with Bott and Zhou Guanyu, and the next day Bott independently completed an Ironman — swimming 3.9 kilometres, cycling 180.2 kilometres, and running a marathon of 42.2 kilometres.

In Singapore, where his media obligations are scheduled, the humidity at the Grand Prix regularly reaches 90 per cent. For this weekend, temperatures of 28 to 33 degrees Celsius have been forecast, and in such conditions, the temperature in the cockpit can reach 60 degrees.
