Danish footballer Marius Kryger Lindh, born without a right forearm, achieved a historic milestone by scoring a goal in the UEFA Europa Conference League. Lindh, who plays as a midfielder for the Faroe Islands club NSI Runavík, scored in the 70th minute of the second leg against Slovenian side Koper. His goal gave his team a 2:0 lead and secured extra time, which was crucial for the further course of the match.
The aggregate score between NSI Runavík and Koper was level at 3:3 after the Danish club won 3:1 in extra time, despite losing the first leg 3:1. The decision on progression came in a penalty shootout, which the Faroe Islands club won 4:3. This secured NSI Runavík a place in the next stage of the competition, eliminating their Slovenian opponents.
With this goal, Lindh became only the second footballer without one arm in history to score in a European club competition. The first player with this condition to score was Northern Irishman Jimmy Hasty, who on 25 September 1963 scored for Dundalk in a 2:1 victory over Swiss side Zürich in the then European Cup.
The 27-year-old Lindh is considered one of the few active footballers without one arm playing at a high international level. He arrived in the Faroe Islands in 2022, and his success in the Conference League has further highlighted his exceptional career despite physical challenges.
