Dubovac Gaza handballers secured a convincing victory in Gospić, defeating the home side 43:24. The match was played in Gospić, and after the first few minutes, the visitors took control and only increased their lead until the end of the encounter.
The hosts, who are members of the Second League West, the third tier of competition, started the match very well. The Gospić players led 3:0 and 4:1 at the very beginning, but the uncertainty lasted for about twenty minutes. Dubovac Gaza then went on a run of five consecutive goals to move from 11:10 to 16:10, thereby turning the match in their favour.
The break was taken with the visitors leading 23:14, which further solidified their position. In the second half, Dubovac Gaza maintained a high tempo and calmly brought the match to a close, confirming their status as favourites against a lower-ranked opponent.
The victory in Gospić opens a new, more attractive episode for Dubovac Gaza. Namely, Karlovac beat Ogulin 38:18 last week and thus qualified for the second round of the cup. Karlovac is a Premier League side, so Dubovac Gaza and Karlovac will measure their strengths in the second round.
The Dubovac Gaza – Karlovac match is scheduled to be played on 11 November. This encounter brings together a team from a lower tier with a Premier League side, and Dubovac Gaza will be looking for an opportunity for a new step forward after their convincing performance in Gospić.
