Users of iPhones can expect the arrival of the new software update, iOS 17, on 14 September. This version will be installed automatically on new devices, specifically the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Max, which will arrive with the pre-installed system. For other compatible devices, availability is tied to the aforementioned date in September.
The key innovation in this release is the integration of advanced artificial intelligence, known as Siri AI. This feature allows for understanding user requests at a more complex level. Siri AI uses the user's personal data, specifically those stored within messages, emails, and photos, to tailor responses and offer a more personalised experience. The technology is designed to recognise content displayed on the screen, thereby expanding the possibilities for interaction with the device.
It is important to note the regional restrictions. Users in the European Union are unable to use the Siri AI feature. The reason for this restriction lies in the requirements of the Digital Markets Act (DMA). This regulation affects the way AI features can be implemented and used within the European Union, resulting in the unavailability of certain features in that geographical area.
Aside from iOS devices, Siri AI is available on other Apple platforms, including macOS 14 and visionOS 10. However, the situation is specific on the Apple Watch. Siri AI on the watches requires a connected iPhone with support for this specific feature, meaning that standalone functionality depends on connectivity with a smartphone. Initially, support for Siri AI is available only in English, while support for other languages, such as French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish, will be added later, in October.
In addition to focusing on improvements in AI integration, Apple plans to release new versions of its other operating systems simultaneously with the arrival of iOS 17, indicating a comprehensive ecosystem upgrade. This strategy ensures that all parts of the ecosystem, from smartwatches to computer systems, are aligned with the latest technological advancements and security standards.
