The European Parliament stated on Sunday that Serbia's progress towards membership in the European Union depends on reforms in the rule of law and respect for democratic standards, and that the country must normalise relations with Kosovo, as reported by Index.hr.
"Serbia must show a genuine commitment to EU values. Progress towards membership is possible only through reforms in the rule of law and strengthening democratic standards. Serbia must normalise relations with Kosovo," the Parliament stated on the social media platform X.
In the same post, it was noted that free and fair elections are necessary to resolve the political crisis in the country.
The message was accompanied by a graphic with key data on Serbia. It notes that Serbia has been an official candidate for membership in the European Union since 2012, has a population of approximately 6.6 million, and its gross domestic product per capita stands at 13,526 euros.
