This year's olive harvest is in full swing, and the increased influx of olive growers is increasingly felt at the mills. Those who are still planning their harvest and processing should book a slot in advance, as waits of several days are occurring in some locations.
At the Mlin olive mill in Bibinje, there is currently a significant rush. The mill has only recently opened, but it is already busy, with all slots booked until 11 November. Olive growers are advised to book a slot at this mill two to five days in advance, which is considered the ideal timeframe for arrangements. The average yield at the Mlin olive mill in Bibinje is currently around 14 per cent.
In Podstrana, the rush at the Simunić olive mill began only this week. Some harvesters had delayed their picking, but after the rain, growers started harvesting more intensively and bringing olives for processing. Before the rain, it took about seven kilograms of olives to produce a litre of oil, with a yield of approximately 13 per cent. After the rain, it takes between nine and 11 kilograms of olives for a litre of oil, while the yield ranges from approximately eight to 10 per cent.
The current average is around eight kilograms of olives per litre of oil, corresponding to a yield of approximately 11 per cent. At the Simunić olive mill, growers are advised to book a processing slot seven to 10 days in advance. This recommendation is made to facilitate harvest organisation and avoid uncertainty regarding waiting times.
Mill occupancy and yields vary from place to place. Therefore, growers are advised to contact the mill where they plan to process their olives in advance and agree on a slot in line with their harvest plan.
