The Bale Volunteer Fire Brigade (Dobrovoljno vatrogasno društvo Bale) marked its 25th anniversary in an unusual way by gifting 25 fruit trees to its fellow residents.
The trees were planted on a public green space in the village, turning the birthday celebration into a lasting contribution to the local environment. The planting took place today.
Instead of a conventional celebration with guests and a special programme, the members of the brigade decided to leave a visible mark in their village. The choice of a public green space means that all residents of Bale will benefit from the gift, not just the members of the brigade.
The number of trees planted is not accidental — it corresponds to the number of years the brigade has been active. In this way, the anniversary is symbolically linked to a concrete result in the community.
Volunteer fire brigades in Istria and elsewhere have traditionally been key drivers of social life in smaller communities, so this action combines the anniversary with care for the space in which they operate.
