Krapina-Zagorje County has declared 6 August 2026 a Day of Mourning following the tragic incident in Sveti Križ Začretje in which two children lost their lives. Through this decision, the county authorities pay tribute to the deceased minors and express solidarity with the families who have suffered an irreparable loss.
The observance of the Day of Mourning encompasses strict protocols concerning public spaces and institutions throughout the county. Flags will be flown at half-mast on all buildings housing county administrative bodies. This aims to visually highlight collective grief and respect for the victims of the accident.
This protocol extends to the local level, where flags will also be flown at half-mast on buildings of local self-government units. This ensures a unified approach to mourning across all administrative levels within Krapina-Zagorje County, regardless of the size or status of each unit.
The obligation to lower flags to half-mast also applies to premises of trading companies and institutions owned or founded by the County. This seeks to achieve the widest possible reach for the symbol of mourning, including the economic sector and public institutions operating under the auspices of the county authority.
Legal entities conducting television and radio activities within Krapina-Zagorje County also had specific obligations regarding the Day of Mourning. Media outlets are required to adapt their programme content and reporting methods to respect the moment of national and local grief.
