The Poreč police, in cooperation with the General Crime Department of the Istarska Police Directorate, have completed a criminal investigation targeting a 34-year-old man. The man was arrested and handed over to the detention unit with a criminal complaint for the offence of coercion against an official, during which it was established that he was under the influence of strong alcohol intoxication at 1.39 per cent.
The incident occurred on 30 July at around 14.50 when police received a report of unlawful behaviour in a shop on Trg slobode (Freedom Square) in Poreč. The 34-year-old began insulting staff members in the premises, thereby disrupting public order and peace. Despite warnings from police officers to calm down, the man continued his aggressive behaviour.
The situation escalated when the 34-year-old physically attacked one of the police officers and punched him. In the ensuing scuffle, two female police officers were slightly injured. At the same time, the 34-year-old attacker himself was slightly injured in the incident, after which he was arrested.
Following the criminal investigation, the police established suspicion that the man had committed the offence of coercion. Given the severity of the offence and the criminal act, as well as the fact that he was under the influence of alcohol, the 34-year-old was held in the police detention unit pending further developments.
