The book Cast School by Željko Bistrić was presented at the House of Frescoes in the Istrian town of Draguč. Bistrić, an author who has professionally dealt with themes related to Kast for many years, led the research and production of the book.
The publication was funded by EU funds within the project Terra Incognita, through the INTERREG Slovenia-Croatia 2021-2027 programme.
This is a comprehensive work that examines the phenomenon of the local school of painting active in the last third of the 15th century in the Croatian and Slovenian space. The workshops led by masters Vincent and Ivan from Kast left some of the most valuable cycles of late Gothic wall painting in the Istrian peninsula and the surrounding regions.
Among them are the frescoes in the church of St Mary of the Skrilin in Beram, St George in Labin, St Mary in Božji Pol, St Trinity in Hrstovlje, and St Helena in Gradišče pri Divači.
At the presentation, the deputy mayor Dean Jurčić spoke on behalf of the City of Kast. He expressed the expectation that the book, together with the Interpretive Centre of Vincent and Ivan from Kast, which is currently under construction, would finally valorise the city's Gothic heritage.
