A bilingual book, “Multikulturalnost u MOJOJ Istri – La multiculturalità nella MIA Istria” (Multiculturalism in MY Istria), by authors Ivona Orlić and Irina Basara, was presented at the City Council Hall in Buje. The event was organised by the Buje Public Open School, and co-author Irina Basara introduced the book to the audience in a conversation with the school’s director, Lovorka Lukani.

The publication is primarily intended for students in the seventh and eighth grades. Through engaging stories, illustrations and traditional recipes, the book highlights the richness of the languages, cultures and customs of the national communities in Istria, providing content on multiculturalism, tradition and the diversity of national communities in the region.

Particular emphasis in the book is placed on the importance of mutual understanding, respect for differences and the preservation of multiculturalism as one of the most important values of the Istrian identity. According to the authors, these themes are designed to help students understand the coexistence of different communities in the Istrian area.

The book was created as a project of the Istria County. During 2026, around 2,000 free copies were distributed to students across Istria, making the publication available to a wide circle of students in Istrian schools.

The presentation at the City Council Hall gathered, alongside the organisers and authors, other individuals interested in the topic of multiculturalism in Istria. The bilingual edition, with titles in both Croatian and Italian, reflects precisely the diversity that the book addresses.
