Mythic horror "Štriguni", inspired by Istrian legends, arrives on the big screen at Kino Valli on Thursday, 29 October, at 19:30. The screening will be followed by a discussion with director Aldo Tardozzi and part of the film crew, who will present the circumstances of the film's creation and bring its story closer to the audience.
Tamara Obrovac, the author of the film's original music, and actors Jelena Lopatić and Hassan Abdelghani will also participate in the discussion. The film "Štriguni" offers a blend of horror, mystery and local mythology, with the action set in the underground of an old Istrian town. In it, ancient legends intertwine with modern scientific research.
At the centre of the story is young biologist Boris, who investigates the possibilities of extended life in a modern genetics laboratory. The disappearance of a boy unsettles the locals and the police, and Boris gradually becomes involved in the investigation. The inquiry raises the question of whether Štriguni, mythical immortal beings believed to steal children, are truly just part of folk tradition.
The direction is by Aldo Tardozzi, with Kemal Rizvanović, Rade Šerbedžija and Tihana Lazović in the lead roles. The film delivers an atmospheric story that combines fears from the past with the unease of the modern world, exploring the boundary between the scientific and the supernatural.
