The tradition of alka in Trilj remains alive, with the latest confirmation coming from the success of a competitor in the traditional competition. Indeed, alkarica Nina Barac has won the women's alka, once again demonstrating the high level of competitive alka in Croatia.
This competition, held on Sunday, is the eleventh in the series. It is an event deeply rooted in local tradition, with its essence being the preservation and nurturing of old alka-related customs, which are recognised as part of the intangible cultural heritage.
The act of winning the alka, the key element of this tradition, was achieved at a specific location. The competition took place at the Jabaca ford, a location situated near the town of Trj. This location, known for its distinctiveness, is a traditional gathering place for this type of competition, connecting participants with the history and customs of the region.
The event took place in August, in a period traditionally associated with such manifestions. Although the exact date depended on the calendar, the event brought together participants and spectators, keeping the living tradition alive.
