Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković met on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York with the head of Apple, the world’s second most valuable company. As he posted himself on the social media platform X, it was a pleasure to meet @tim_cook, executive chairman of the board at @Apple.
Plenković noted that they discussed the development of digital services in the European Union, the challenges posed by artificial intelligence, and the importance of safety in the digital environment. They also discussed regulations concerning children’s use of social media.
In his conversation with Cook, the prime minister highlighted innovations and the rapid growth of Croatia’s ICT sector, as well as government activities regarding the country’s digital transformation.
Cook was recently chief executive of Apple, a position he relinquished in April to John Ternus. Apple’s shares have risen twentyfold since Cook took over as chief executive in August 2011. Cook was brought to Apple by its founder, Steve Jobs.
Plenković also posted on X that he had met in New York with his Kosovar counterpart, Albin Kurti. He stated that Croatia continues to support Kosovo on its path to EU and Council of Europe membership and will participate in the NATO peacekeeping mission @NATO_KFOR.
He noted that they discussed the situation in south-eastern Europe, economic cooperation, and security challenges, as well as the importance of caring for the Croatian minority in Kosovo and the Kosovar minority in Croatia.
