Russia launched a mass attack on Kyiv on Wednesday, using ballistic missiles and drones. The attack resulted in the deaths of 14 people and injured at least 22, making it one of the deadliest strikes on the capital this year. The attack began after midnight, following air raid warnings that had been in place for more than an hour.
The head of the Kyiv military administration, Timur Tkachenko, confirmed that the region was under heavy attack. Waves of ballistic missiles hit the city and its outskirts, with artillery damaging residential buildings and storage facilities. The administration stated that the enemy was deliberately targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure.
Victims were recorded in several districts. Nine people were killed in Borodyanka, four in Bucha, and one in Fastiv. Mayor Vitali Klitschko expressed concern that people might be trapped under the rubble following the strike in the city centre. Four injured people are in serious condition.
Russia has intensified attacks on Kyiv in recent weeks. In response, Ukraine has increased attacks on Russian civilian infrastructure, including energy facilities. Recently, warehouses of the e-commerce giant Wildberries were targeted, in which five people were killed and ten injured in the Moscow region on Tuesday.
