Sales of new Tesla cars in Germany nearly quadrupled in October. According to registration data, 2,932 new Tesla vehicles were registered in the month, a 290.9 per cent increase compared with the same month last year.

From the start of the year to the end of October, a total of 47,742 Teslas were registered in Germany, roughly three times more than in the same period last year. The growth in Tesla sales coincided with increased demand for electric cars in Germany. A total of 94,086 new battery-electric vehicles were registered in October, 79.5 per cent more than a year earlier.

Despite strong growth, Tesla held a 1.2 per cent share of the German car market in October. Chinese manufacturer BYD held two per cent of the market, Leapmotor 1.4 per cent, and Xpeng 0.5 per cent. Tesla faces intensifying competition and is attempting to boost demand with cheaper versions of the Model 3 and Y.

Globally, Tesla delivered a total of 486,532 vehicles in the third quarter, a two per cent decrease compared with the same quarter last year. In the US market, business results were further weighed down by the removal of tax incentives last year.

From January to September, a total of 188,035 Teslas were registered in the European Union, 68.9 per cent more than in the same period last year.
