The fire that broke out on Thursday evening at the silo of a company in Štefanc, near Čakovec, has been successfully extinguished. Firefighters prevented the fire from spreading to other parts of the plant, the eMeđimurje portal reported.
Firefighters from the Štefanc, Pribislavac, and Ivanče volunteer fire brigades, as well as the Čakovec public fire brigade, responded to the incident. According to information from the scene, the fire was confined to the silo, with no significant damage to the company's other buildings. The installation of an automatic fire suppression system facilitated the extinguishing process.
According to initial, unconfirmed reports, workers heard an explosion before the fire broke out. Međimurje newspaper reports that the fire occurred at the PIB Extra factory.
The company specialises in the production of moulds, among others made of plastic and wood, so a quick response was crucial to prevent the fire from spreading to the rest of the plant.
The cause of the fire is not yet known and will be determined following an official report by the relevant authorities. There are no reports of injuries.
This is the second fire in production facilities in the region in two days: a large fire broke out the previous day at a factory in nearby Pribislavac, the firefighters of which also participated in the firefighting efforts in Štefanc.
