Investment manager T. P. (62) sent a message from his e-mail address to the official address of the secretariat of the Office of the President of the Republic of Croatia, in which he wrote: "You are targeted. You have five, six days of life if you decide to ignore and humiliate me. Because I can do it. Lots of love and respect. If you do not return with respect, you are executed. Tik-tak, tik-tak, you are targeted".
This, it is stated, expressed his dissatisfaction that no one from the Office of the President was responding to his previously submitted petitions. In those petitions, he expressed dissatisfaction with a ruling by which a criminal order was issued against him for threats directed at the director of the Sector for International Cooperation of the Croatian National Bank.
Police were immediately notified of the received threat and were at the sender's door within a short period. He is the father of nine children and lives in Slavonia. Police seized his laptop, which has since been kept at the police station, and by court decision it will be returned to him.
Following the criminal proceedings at the Municipal Court for threats, and based on the indictment, T. P. will not go to prison because it was determined that he was not responsible for his actions at the time of the offence. Under the Act on the Protection of Persons with Mental Disorders, he is ordered to undergo six months of psychiatric treatment in an institution. According to the psychiatric expert, the suspect has a schizophrenia spectrum mental disorder, and the expert concluded that there is a high level of risk that he could commit a more serious criminal offence.
During police questioning, T. P. admitted that he had written the disputed e-mail to the President of the Republic, but also to the Prime Minister. When asked why he had sent the threats, he spoke about Russia, China and the Croatian legal system, and that he was being used as a consultant. At the prosecutor's office, he said he has nine children, but not in Croatia, and did not wish to disclose their ages. He apologised for having, as he stated, "caused fear in a democratically elected president".
He stated that he was in a state of emotional stress because he had received a non-final verdict from the Zagreb Municipal Criminal Court declaring him guilty of threats against the director at the HNB. As an investment manager, he claims he can no longer find employment, his right to work has been taken away, and when he is angry, he screams. He also said he has no intention of contacting any institutions again and stated: "If you think it is best to lock me up, then lock me up."
He recalled that in 2012 he had tried to contact Zoran Milanović while he was Prime Minister, but that he had been ignored then as well. He added that in the previous 16 years he had been temporarily employed seven times as a substitute computer science teacher. When asked what the President of the Republic should have done to help him, he replied that he did not know, except to employ him as a consultant, and described the e-mail he had written as written in a fit of passion.
