The City of Labin, the Labin Tourist Board and Komunalno poduzeće 1. Maj (Municipal Enterprise 1 May) organised a traditional ceremony to award the best-maintained courtyards and gardens in the city. The event took place on the eve of Labin City Day, bringing together the owners of the awarded spaces and members of the expert jury for a fitting celebration.
Courtyards and gardens from seven local committees in the Labin area were awarded. A special jury evaluated the overall aesthetic impression, style and harmony with the surrounding space. When judging, they took into account the owners' long-term efforts, the correct selection and care of plants, the presence of Mediterranean elements and respect for local tradition.
This year's campaign motto was "Towards Climate Change", highlighting the importance of sustainable space management. Committee member Lori Luketa Dagostin, a qualified horticulture engineer from Komunalno poduzeće 1. Maj, noted that she learned something from every awarded garden. According to her, the awarded gardens showed examples that could be presented to anyone in the world.
The award for the Kature local committee went to the Jurada family, while the Rabac local committee award was won by the Skandul family. In the Labin Donji local committee, the Zandel-Jajčević family was awarded, and for Labin Gornji, the Škopac family. In Vinež, the Franković family received the award, in Kapelica the Gobo family, and in Ripendi the Derosi-Sučić family.
Labin Mayor Donald Blašković congratulated the winners on their achievement. Astrid Glavičić, director of the Labin City Tourist Board, also addressed the awarded families, quoting that gardening is considered a practice of optimism.
