Lička Water has issued an urgent appeal to all users in the area of Otočac, Perušić and Vrhovine. In a statement, the company calls on residents to strictly limit unnecessary consumption of drinking water to stabilise the situation in the local water supply system.
The reason for this emergency measure lies in the highly unfavourable hydrological situation currently affecting the region. The prolonged drought has significantly reduced available water resources, directly impacting supply capacity. This natural phenomenon is further complicated by the increased water consumption recorded by the utility companies.
The situation in the system is the result of a combination of these factors, where dry periods place pressure on sources, and high demand from users places additional strain on the infrastructure. As a direct consequence, significantly reduced water pressures have been recorded in the supply system. This leads to technical difficulties in the regular functioning of the network.
Users in the affected areas are already experiencing intermittent interruptions in the supply of drinking water. These interruptions are not permanent, but are frequent enough to require an immediate response from all stakeholders. The company stresses that the cooperation of residents is key to overcoming this crisis.
Lička Water is calling on the public to be mindful of every drop of water they use. By reducing unnecessary activities, such as washing cars or watering gardens during the hottest parts of the day, residents can help maintain the stability of the system while conditions normalise.
