Vicko Sviličić, director of Gradina d.o.o., outlined the state of the Wellington landfill, preparations for its remediation and waste management on the island of Vis at a public forum in Komiža. The forum was held on 14 October, and the director's presentation can be viewed on the forum recording, starting after two hours and ten minutes.
The presentation from the forum includes photographs and thermal images of the landfill, along with plans for the remediation of Wellington. The material is available for download in PDF format, and technical documentation regarding the remediation of Wellington has been published on the official website of the City of Vis.
According to the presentation, full remediation requires the completion of project documentation. An operational waste management plan for the entire island is also being drafted, which is one of the key steps in further organising the waste management system on Vis.
A new rule for construction waste was also announced at the forum: from 21 October 2026, construction waste must be sorted by type before submission. This, as presented, changes the way construction waste is submitted and further processed.
The forum gathered stakeholders interested in the state of the Wellington landfill and the preparation for its remediation, and the presented materials and the recording of the presentation are available to the public through the official channels of the City of Vis.
