Croatian police have issued fines to more than 30 drivers who breached traffic regulations on the A1 motorway near the Gornja Ploča junction. The incident occurred during the police investigation of a traffic accident, with some drivers attempting to pass through the safety corridor in the opposite direction, thereby endangering safety at the junction.
For such behaviour, which constitutes a serious breach of safety, strict penalties are prescribed. According to available information, the fine ranges from 1,320 to 2,650 euros, depending on the assessment of the offender. The legislation stipulates that in addition to the fine, six penalty points are imposed. Special caution is advised, as repeated offences can lead to more severe measures, although decisions on vehicle confiscation are made exclusively by the courts, not the police. The process is strictly regulated, with confiscation taking place within 15 days of the judgment being passed.
In the broader context, statistics show a general trend of decreasing traffic accidents. Although the exact percentage drop in accidents is noted as a general trend, statistics for specific categories of participants remain relevant. It is particularly noted that statistics for motorcyclists and motorcycle drivers show changes, with 55 fatalities recorded this year, compared to 71 the previous year. This indicates a need for additional caution measures for this group of road users, despite the overall decline in the number of serious accidents.
